They Don't Make Music Like They Used To. Do We All Watch Too Much Television?

I was practically raised on Motown. Artists like Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and The Supremes, and The Jackson 5 were all I really listened to until I was about ten. I often wish we had something like Motown now. Multiple voices, with a jazz band, and great dancing that doesn't just involve shaking your butt. Motown, though, was too controlling for many artists today. Motown would find artists with raw talent, teach them what to sing, how to dance, what to wear and give them a band.  While their artists became very popular, and produced wonderful music, the label held most of the power.

Still, I think that Motown is preferable to many of the record labels today. Many artists don't write all of their music, their dances are choreographed and their label controls their careers. But, unlike Motown, the music isn't always the highest quality. Artists that do not have a label or have indie labels have more freedom but its harder for them to become popular and they have to write all their own music. Its like the dilemma of the young adult. Stay at home, follow your parent's rules and get help with your bills and living expenses, or, live on your own, follow your own rules but take sole responsibility for your bills and expenses. There is a price for all freedoms, and we have to decide what freedoms are worth their prices.
I found this cute video of Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder on Youtube. It's amazing that they sound this good without any sort of autotuning. I hope you like it. Much thanks for reading. Many hugs and warm feelings. :)

  1. I don't have a tv :). And I have to say that it's pretty amazing, and I don't have a tv for 3 years now.
Oldies but goldies, right? I grow up in a house where rock was play all day. Now I listen to elector, funk, disco, etc. But on the 14th I'm going to an Alice Cooper concert. :).
