Our Bodies Are Not Tools, They're Pieces of Art and Should Be Treated like Leonardo daVinci's.

A few days while looking through some of my favorite blogs I learned about SlutWalkToronto. SlutWalk started when a representative of the Toronto police force said "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized". Which was a poorly made comment on a serious problem. It was implied that "sluts will get raped." so therefore, rape would be the victim's fault. Rape is not about sex; its an act of violence; a form of assault just like burglary and murder. If someone wears a shirt with a picture of a gun on it, is it their fault if someone shoots them? Should the shooter receive a lighter sentence for shooting that person, rather, than someone with a plain t-shirt? If someone leaves a window open at night, is it their fault they got burglarized? Should the burglar be pardoned since the window was open? By implying that someone who is a "slut will be raped" ,the victim becomes the perpetrator, and, the perpetrator becomes the victim, which, is twisted and wrong. All sorts of people get raped: men, women, and, children. Most rape victims look and dress like average people. Even, women in burqas have been raped. What one wears doesn't make any difference in whether they will get raped or not. Like other crimes its a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong person.

Rape is a chronically under-reported crime. Many rapists are in society posing a serious threat to our safety. By calling people sluts, and implying or outrightly saying that they will get raped, we are encouraging rape. Most rape survivors are afraid to report to the police or even tell family members what happened, because, they feel they will be blamed for what happened to them. So, the rapist doesn't pay for their crime thereby putting all of us at risk. A victim of assault should always feel free to report to the police, and, the people they care about in hope of comfort, and, retribution to the criminal. On the subject of calling anyone a slut, any toddler can tell us that name-calling is wrong. It doesn't matter who the other person is or what they do. As people over the age of 5,  we have no excuse to call anyone a name other than the name on their birth certificate. We should treat other humans with basic courtesy and respect , just as we would like to be treated ourselves.

An example of name-calling and some of the feelings behind it. I noticed that allot of people label Miley Cyrus as a slut, whore or as gross. Miley Cyrus is none of those things. I  think some don't like her, because they're jealous. She has a natural, unique beauty that isn't the product of makeup and plastic surgery ,amazing grunge/boho style, and talent. Even though I'm not a huge fan of her music, I  like her movies and her show. So if anyone asks, yes, I'm a Miley Cyrus fan. We all should remember that we are all beautiful and that if you give hate you'll get hate but if you give love you'll get lots of love back.

To Conclude a music video I love by Axelle Red. I think its a nice end to a serious post. I love her dancing, its expressive, fun, and relaxing, allot like ballet. And as I mentioned before, I love ballet. Enjoy:)
